She gasped with excitement and shouted over the noise of the propeller: "The islands in the clouds are real!!" I couldn't believe what I was seeing. I wiped my eyes repeatedly to make sure that what I was looking at was really there. I turned to my grandpa in mere astonishment. "I told you it was a real place," he calmly spoke.
"OH, THANK YOU GRANDPA! THANK YOU SO MUCH!" I exclaimed as I threw my arms around him.
"Of course sweetheart. Now, how about we land this jet and check it out?"
"There's nothing I would love more."
As I gazed around I couldn't believe what I was seeing; I had never seen so many colors. I began to run in excitement past all of the little shops. There was my favorite ice cream shoppe and a store just filled with my favorite barbies. How could this be? I thought to myself. I entered the barbie store and began to eagerly look around. Every Barbie a little girl could ever want was stocked on the shelves. When I picked one up to buy, I couldn't find where to pay. There wasn't a single counter top in sight. In fact, there wasn't even anyone who was working the store! I looked up only to find a sign that read, "HELP YOURSELF! UNLIMITED STOCK. FREE OF CHARGE." I slowly backed away in awe...could this be real?!
I quickly hurried out to show my grandpa, but he wasn't anywhere to be found! "Grandpaaaa! Grandpaaaa! Where are you, Grandpa?" There was no response. Finally, I spotted a girl from far away. I quickly approached her to see if she could help.
"Excuse me. Have you seen an old man walking around her?" I politely asked as I tapped her shoulder. She slowly turned around and my jaw seemed to have dropped the floor.
"Jenny! You finally made it!"
"What?! You're Kit! You're just an American Girl Doll! How are you here? How are you talking to me right now?!"
"Well Jenny, you traveled into my world. So I should be asking what you're doing here."
"What are you talking about?! Where's my Grandpa? I need to find my Grandpa!" I frantically exclaimed.
I began to run. I needed to find him to ask what was going on. I kept running but I didn't know my way around. I felt that I was running in circles. It began to get very foggy. I couldn't tell where I was going and all of a sudden...
"AHHHHHHHHH!!!!" I was falling off of a cloud.
I suddenly jolted and woke up! I began to panic until I opened my eyes to find myself still wrapped up in my Grandpa's lap rocking back and forth in a rocking chair.
"Sweetie, are you okay? Were you having a nightmare?" He asked me worriedly. I looked down to find the book "The Island in the Clouds" still being held in my Grandpa's hand. It was all just a crazy dream. I sighed heavily, "I love you Grandpa. Next time we visit the island in the clouds, please hold my hand. I could never risk losing you."
I think that maybe the story shouldn't end negatively at all. I was going to make the island in the clouds turn into a nightmare, but instead I think it should just be happy the entire time. I just needed an idea of how to wake the little girl up. So instead, I changed it and didn't really make anything serioiusly bad happen. She still loves the island. She was just afraid that she lost her Grandpa. The island in the clouds is still a magical place; just the thought of losing someone she loves so much was enough to scare her a little bit.
ReplyDeleteI really liked it! I thought at first that she may be in Heaven, but I like that it was just a dream. Good read!
